The first Descent 3 Retribution game is the training mission. It will guide you through the controls of your ship and some fight with bots. The basic ship is the Pyro-GL.
The ship can be controlled keyboard only, or keyboard + mouse or joystick. The ship controls can be reconfigured from the Descent 3 main menu. For instance, I use the joystick with my left hand and the keyboard with my right hand to control the ships moves. I better use the numpad keys:
At the same time, I can use the mouse to aim more accurately.
"The basic equipment consists into a laser and concussion missiles. The ship's weaponry can be upgraded by collecting the various powerups floating around; the ship can also be recharged and repaired in the same fashion." ( http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Descent_3/Getting_Started )
