Descent 3 - Descent 3 dedicated server tool for Windows

The lower part of D3Server3's main window consists of the event log list. In this list the tool continuously logs what it is currently doing. The event log is cleared every time D3Server 3 is closed or when "Clear event log window"  is selected.

A right mouse click inside the event log opens a popup menu if at least one line in the list has been selected with a left mouse click beforehand.

EverntLogPopupThe menu that pops up is sensitive to what has been selected. If only a single line without any additional context has been selected, only two entries exist: "Online help (open browser window)" and "Copy". EverntLogPopupB The menu gets bigger when the selection contains more context with useful information. For example, if at least one selected line of the event log contains a server port (UDP), an additional menu item appears which allows for copying the dedicated Descent 3 server's UDP (user datagram protocol) port to the Windows clipboard. The same goes for a server's process ID (PID), for a player's nickname, and many more. Below you'll find a complete list of all possible items and information on what each event log popup menu entry does

Note that the menu usually does not contain all of the possible options at the same time. Only the items that make sense according to the selection made in the event log before the menu was opened are available.

The list is sorted the same way as the items would appear in the popup menu. It is not sorted alphabetically.

Online help (open browser window)

Selecting this menu item opens a browser window with this webpage. The page explains the entire even log popup menu.

Copy

Copies the entire selection to the Windows clipboard. You can later paste this information in any other Windows application that supports copy and paste.

Copy server UDP port ("port")

Copies the UDP port on which a dedicated Descent 3 server is listening to the Windows clipboared. The port number copied is the one shown between the double quotation marks in the menu item.

Copy server PID ("pid")

Copies the process ID of a dedicated Descent 3 server to the Windows clipboard. The process identifier copied to the clipboard can be seen between the double quotation marks in the event log popup menu entry.

Copy player name ("name")

Copies a player's nickname of a dedicated server to the Windows clipboard. The name appears in the menu item between the double quotation marks.

Copy IP address ("nn.nn.nn.nn")

Copies a player's IP address to the Windows clipboard. The IP address copied can be seen between the double quotation marks in the popup menu item.

Copy hostname ("sub.name.domain")

Copies the hostname of a player's IP address to the Windows clipboard. The name is shown between the double quotation marks in the popup menu entry.

Copy msn filename ("x:\\path\filename")

Copies the full path and filename of an msn file to the Windows clipboard. D3Server3 creates msn files for hosted servers under certain conditions, for example to allow level looping and to correct download links. The full path and filename copied to the clipboard is the one shown between the double quotation marks in the event list popup menu item.

Who is "nn.nn.nn.nn"? (open 'whois' in browser window)

Opens a browser window with a 'whois* query for the IP address displayed in double quotation marks in the menu item.

Clear event log windowD3S3ClearEventLogWindow

Empties the event log window in case the event log appears too crowded for you.

Clearing (emptying) the event log window has no effect on D3Server3's main logfile. Only the window's contents are discarded. The deleted entries are still available in the logfile.
