In order to see (or better: guess) what the lighting may look like later once the entire level gets lit, it is vital to first light some single rooms. This is actually quite a straight forward process. In the lighting dialog, just go for the current room instead the entire mine. D3Edit will hang every so often when it lights a single room. It does finish lighting the room eventuallly, but only after a very long time (> 5 minutes, depending on the processor speed of the lighting machine). In many cases, the level is not usable anymore after this problem has occurred, so better don't save this level then! Instead, always save your level before you light a single room. It might be beneficial to make a backup of the level file first before you save. Remember that D3Edit only keeps very few copies when the level file is opened, but at some point suggests to delete these backup copies again, which is actually very dangerous. When the editor hangs during the lighting process, just kill it via Windows Taskmanager ("d3edit.exe"). Start a new instance of D3Edit and light the room again. It will now light the room in almost no time. Note: Lighting single rooms can lead to transparent objects on some graphics cards. Before releasing a level/mission to the public the entire mine should be lit.
