When you try to install Descent 3 off the first disk (D3 disk 1) the installation does not start. Nothing happens. You get an hourglass mouse cursor for a few seconds which disappears again afterwards, but the actual installation doesn't start.

Descent 3 uses the installation software InstallShield in a very old version. This old version does not allow new software installations as long as installed software updates are still pending and waiting for a system restart.

If you try to install Descent 3 off the first D3 disk and the installation won't start, try to reboot the system first. This will usually finish the installation of pending software updates. After Windows has been restarted, Descent 3's installation works as expected.

Another way of avoiding this issue is to download the full version of Descent 3 from Dateiliste instead.
